Buxa is a village in the Alipurduar district of the state of West Bengal. It is hugely popular for the Buxa Tiger Reserve which is a forest for reservations of tigers and the Tiger Reserve is situated within the Buxa National Park. It gained the status of being a Tiger Reserve in the year 1983 and National Park in the year 1992. It is located at the Assam-Bhutan Border and is the largest forest in North Bengal with an approximate area of 745 sq km. It is in the second place after Sunderban in terms of having the number of tigers.

How to Reach Buxa-Tiger Reserve from Siliguri:

Buxa-Tiger Reserve is located at a distance of approximately 168 kilometers from Siliguri. You can rent a car to reach Buxa-Tiger Reserve in Siliguri from a local car rental service provider who can provide well-serviced cars on rent for a safe and convenient trip to Buxa within 4 hours and 25 minutes.

How to reach Buxa-Tiger Reserve from Bagdogra:

The approximate distance between Bagdogra Airport and Buxa-Tiger Reserve is 183 kilometers. Several tour and travel agency in Siliguri, along selling tour packages also offer Bagdogra Airport taxi service one way which takes almost 4 hours and 30 minutes to reach there.

Best time to visit Buxa-Tiger Reserve:

Summer which extends from April to June is a good time to visit Buxa. Though the weather remains hot and humid still the chances of getting the glances of Tiger and other wildlife animals is very common during this season.

October to March is winter season and it is the perfect time for traveling to Buxa as the weather remains pleasant and the lush greeneries look at its best. Monsoon (July-August) should be ignored for visiting it as Buxa receives a heavy rainfall due to its locations within the vicinity of the foothills of the mighty Himalayas.

Sightseeing at Buxa:

1-Jayanti Village- It is a small village which is located deep inside the forest and can be visited during a day trip. Accommodation facilities are also available at the home stays or at the small resorts. The village is a paradise for nature lovers and one can make Jayanti tour plan after getting the permission from the forest department but has to be accompanied by a guide.

2-Raimatang-It is another small cloistered village situated on the Western side of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. There are some watchtowers in the village and one can witness elephants along with some other animals and beautiful butterflies here. Surrounded by deep forests, Raimatang provides an awe-inspiring view of Mother Nature.

3-Buxa Fort-It is a fort with much of historical significance. In order to keep the leaders of India's Independence movement in a hidden internment, the British Government built it. Today it is among the most popular tourist spots in Dooars. One has to trek for 4 km from Santalbari to reach here and it can be visited as part of a day trip or you can stay here as accommodations are available for overnight stay.

4-Sikiajhora-It is among the most preferred tourist spot on the Eastern side of Buxa and lots of tourists visit the place throughout the year. You will be taken through the forest and narrow channels in a country boat to reach Sikiajhora Stream. You can explore some reptiles, birds, and other wildlife animals too.

Buxa jungle safari timings:

6:00 am to 11:00 am in the morning and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the afternoon.

Price of the cost safari:

A jeep along with a guide and permits all charge INR 1200 Rs in total.

Entry cost at Buxa:

Tickets are available from Rajabhatkhawa and the price is INR 250 Rs for the vehicle along with the driver and INR 50 Rs per person.
