Would you ever see any animal which is a mishmash of cow and goat? Sound weird, right? Yes, Takin is just like that!
Takin is a rare type of goat-antelope animal living in the Eastern Himalayas of Bhutan. The most distinctive features which make it different from others are-
- Elongated Noses
- Broad Heads
- Bulky Torsos
All scientists are keen to study this animal because though it resembles just like a muskox, it is actually genetically similar to sheep.
History Lies Behind Motithang Takin Preserve!!
Let's have a look about Takin Preserve Centre's history at below-
- Initially, Motithang was a mini zoo that was used about Buddhist teaching.
- Then the 4th King of Bhutan decided against the establishment of this zoo as it was not synced with the Bhutanese culture.
- After the zoo was dismantled, the animals being held there were freed to go back in the wild.
- Interestingly, a flock of Takin, which lived in the zoo, was seen to roam around the city of Thimphu for food.
- Then it was decided to put them back into the preserve center and finally, it became as Takin Preserve center.
Isn't it too much interesting? Yes, it is and a place worth to visit!
